Program Objectives
To develop in the students the competencies required to apply the following principles, rules and methods: integrate harmoniously into the school and work environments; to proofread business texts; to apply a keyboarding technique; to manage administrative information; to understand and identify various management approaches to quality; to manage their time; to design the visual format of a document; to write business correspondence; to use database software; to use the basic functions of word processing software; to use the basic functions of spreadsheet software; to use the advanced function of word processing software; to use telecommunication tools; to communicate in a business in an office setting; to handle bilingual communications in an office setting; to produce and receive business correspondence; to produce documents; to handle requests regarding labour laws; to update files; to prepare business meetings; to carry out common and periodic accounting tasks; to produce business correspondence in French; to translate business correspondence into French.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Secretarial Studies program, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Persons holding a Secondary School Diploma or its recognized equivalent.
OR
Persons who are at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which their training is to begin and have earned the Secondary IV credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister, or have been granted recognition of equivalent learning.
OR
Persons who are at least 18 years of age upon entry into the program and have the following functional prerequisites: the successful completion of the General Development Test, or recognition of equivalent learning.
OR
Persons having earned Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister and who will continue their general education courses concurrently with their vocational training in order to obtain the credits they are missing among the following: Secondary IV language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister.
